It's You

Have you ever been in a moment and known what needed to be done? It could have been something broken that needed to be fixed, it could have been a child who needed help, it may have been someone grieving who needed comfort. No matter the situation, you were there and aware of the need. But who should do it? Well, in short - It’s you.

Is it a neighbor who you know needs help but wont ask? It’s you. Take initiative and help. Is there a concern with something going on at your kid’s school? It’s you. Go have a conversation and help find the solution. Is there a civic issue in your city? It’s you. Go to the council meeting and raise your concern. Is there an election coming up? It’s you. Be a light and cast your vote for righteousness. Remember, the world is made up of individuals and a community is the sum of how each of those individuals live. As long as we live in a society where we know the need and feel like someone else should fix the problem, we will be waiting for things to get better for the rest of our lives.

There is a woman in the Bible named Ester, who, against her will, found herself between a rock and a hard spot. Being married to the king but culturally a Jew. Why was that so hard? Well, there was a wicked man close to the king who had convinced the governing powers to kill off all of Ester’s people. With the day of genocide quickly approaching it seemed that there was no one who could bring an end to coming madness. But Ester’s uncle said something to her. He told her, “She was born for such a time as this.” In God’s power and knowledge, He brought Ester into the world when He did and allowed her marriage to the king because something much more important was going on. Long story short, she respectfully presented her case which resulted in the preservation of her people and justice being leveled against the wicked man.

Additionally, the Bible says in Acts 17 that God has established the bounties of your dwelling. You live where you do for a reason and for a purpose bigger than you realize. Not that it must be one big Ester type issue. But if you take a hundred one-pound weights it can feel quite heavy. A life lived making a lot of little right decisions, will be a life, that in the end, will have had quite the impact.

If you ever find yourself aware of a need and wonder who should do something, it’s you. You were born for such a time as this. If you are aware of it, you are supposed to be part of resolving it. It’s not someone else’s responsibility. It’s not someone else’s job. It’s not someone else’s issue. Its you. Comfortable or not, skilled or not, ITS YOU. You were born for such a time as this.
